How many years have you been cosplaying?
I wore my first costume in 2009, so this is my 7th year doing cosplay.
How were you introduced to cosplay?
I was a fan of manga, anime and games, and would spend my free-time drawing my favourite characters, and since I already had a life-long interest in sewing and various crafts the idea of recreating their costumes was very appealing to me.
I made my first costume by myself, but didn’t have so much fun wearing it. Eventually I made some friends who convinced me to join their group and my second attempt at cosplay was a lot more successful and I have been stuck ever since!
What is your greatest achievement as a cosplayer?
Proooobably never giving up and trying to make better costumes every year, which has allowed me to stay in the top three in the Swedish cosplay scene for the past six years (as far as competitions are concerned). It is that or getting my cat’s butt smeared with silicone that one time.
In your opinion, what is the greatest thing about cosplay?
I guess it is never being bored? I always have a project or ten waiting for me at home. The crafting aspect is the main reason I am in this hobby for so long and so deeply. While the work may be tedious at times, seeing your costume come together piece by piece can be very satisfying.
Also, since I am a massive dork, it is the best way for me to handle all these feelings that I sometimes have about certain characters. Getting a nice response from another fan of the character while wearing your costume also always makes your hard work feel worthwhile.
Which of your costumes is your favourite?
The Emperor from Final Fantasy II was a dream costume for many years before I finally made it and that costume has brought me so many good memories and opportunities, and I will always treasure it in that regard. I am also very proud of my Margaery Tyrell wedding dress, which was easily the costume I have spent the most time making.
Do you have a dream costume?
I already made several of my long-time dream costumes, but one that has been on my list forever is a certain dress of Galadriel’s, and I hope I will be able to finish it in the end (it is a very slow project). It was technically a secret project of mine, but to whoever reads this: Now you know!!
What is your favourite convention memory?
I am bad at remembering these things, but I always have a terribly good time partying with my German and Norwegian friends at Hobbitcon.
What are you looking forward to when coming to Genki?
Actually I have never been to Denmark, much less Genki! Please break this poor Swede in gently…? I look forward to finding out what shenanigans you southerners are up to!
Any final words to our guests?
Please feel free to have a chat with me if you see me at the convention. Showing me a picture of your cat is a great conversation starter! A little game of “I’ll show you mine if you show me your’s” is never wrong. Also I hope you enjoy the costumes I am bringing for you 🙂
